Car Use on Curaçao
A car is essential in Curaçao. Without a car you would miss many of the highlights of the island (not
at least the beautiful beaches on the entire south coast). But also for doing many practical matters,
such as groceries or going to a restaurant, a car is very handy.
The roads on Curaçao are generally in reasonable condition, although the differences are large. The
local driving style is "relaxed" but also something somehow 'unpredictable' compared to the most
European and North American countries. Careful driving is the best way to get around the island. With a
normal car you can reach all major tourist hotspots.
In the rainy season (October-January), some roads are closed. In downtown Willemstad, it can be be busy
but in the countryside roads are very quiet.
In general, traffic rules equals European and North American countries. Driving is on the right side of
the road.
In cooperation with the local care taker (Villas & More), we offer attractive opportunities for a
car in addition to your holiday accommodation.
We offer only new (2010) cars. And all for prices you normally pay for much smaller or older cars.
All cars are in excellent condition, registered with the local Road Assistance (you
even get help if you have a flat tire, even at the "home address" of your holiday accommodation) and
excellent insured.
You know exactly where you stand, there are no unexpected extra fees (except local tax: 5%).
Basis own liability is € 500.00 at each accident or damage. You can, however reduce his to €
125,00 at a small daily fee.
This own liability is, according to the Curaçao law, applicable for damage to the car AND third part
liability.
Additional benefits:
- transfer to and from the airport is free of charge (only if you have booked accommodation with
us);
- the car is ready at your booked accommodation; no long waiting lines at the airport offices of car
rental companies;
- change of car in case of breakdown or damage (if you can't drive for more than 4 hours);
- We provide a free child seat (up to 14 kg), for extra seats or increases in demand, please
request;
- No limit to the number of drivers, no surcharge either;
- If you rent two cars at once or one car used more than 14 days, we offer attractive discount (see
price table );
Further details:
- Driver's age must be 24 years or up;
- Driver must have his/her drivers license for at least 3 years;
- For each rental car, a safety deposit of € 300.00 is applicable (€ 500.00 will be added
to - if the own liability is not rediced to € 125,00);
- The car must be returned with at least the same level of fuel as the car was issued. It must be
clean (inside / outside, washed by a CarWash) If not cleaned and / or not refueled, then an
additional charge will apply for fueling/cleaning.
